In 1937, a
local Arab leader, Auni Bey Abdul-Hadi, told the Peel
Commission, which ultimately suggested the partition of
Palestine: "There is no such country [as Palestine]!
'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented! There is no
Palestine in the Bible. Our country was for centuries part of
Syria."

September 1982, Emir Salin, a Lebanese businessman who helped establish
the Lebanese navy and intelligence service, declared in an interview:
“No, I don’t think that the Reagan [read Bush] peace plan can work,
because there are too many Arabs who don’t want peace.”
He went on to say: “There are plenty of Arab countries, and I
don’t see why the Palesti9nians can’t disperse among them and live like
everyone else. If they’d stop spending all the money on guns and
terrorism, every Palestinian could have a million dollars with which to
settle somewhere” (JerusalemPost,
September 9, 1982).
